A late-Victorian edition of Arnold’s celebrated narrative poem recounting the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha. The title page identifies this copy as A New Edition, published in London by Trübner & Co., Ludgate Hill, in 1889.
This copy is especially attractive for its decorative period binding, with floral patterned boards, gilt decoration and ornamental spine treatment. The title page is printed in black and red. The binding shows age-related wear, including rubbing and bumping at the spine ends and corners, but remains visually striking.
