Children of the Poor is John A. Lee’s powerful semi-autobiographical New Zealand novel, drawing on his own difficult childhood and early life. First published in 1934, it became one of Lee’s best-known works and an important contribution to twentieth-century New Zealand literature.
This 1949 hardcover edition was published by Bernard Henry in London in association with N. V. Douglas Ltd., Auckland, with assistance from the New Zealand State Literary Fund. The book retains its original illustrated dust jacket.

Condition: Good vintage condition. The original dust jacket is present and shows edge wear, rubbing, creasing, small chips and closed tears, particularly around the spine ends and corners. The red cloth boards show light wear. The binding remains sound and the pages are generally clean with age toning and light foxing consistent with age.
