About this book
An interview becomes a journey through a painter’s life. Over the course of a day in Vermont, Hope Chafetz talks to a younger woman about art, marriage and the people who shaped her past. John Updike follows the shifting relationship between interviewer and subject while evoking the ambitions and compromises of postwar American art. A reflective novel about memory, creativity and growing older.
