Waikanae is the substantially revised and expanded second edition of Chris Maclean and Joan Maclean's local history of the Kāpiti Coast town, first published in 1988 as Waikanae: Past & Present. The book combines a chronological history of the district with an account of its landscape, including Waikanae's beach, river, bush, gardens and the changing relationship between Māori and European settlement. This edition contains extensive colour and black-and-white illustrations and maps.
