The Apocrypha in the Revised Version (Oxford World's Classics)

The Apocrypha in the Revised Version, published by Oxford University Press as part of the celebrated World’s Classics series.

This compact Oxford edition contains the Apocryphal books translated from the Greek and Latin tongues, following the historic 1611 King James Bible tradition and later revised against ancient authorities.

The Apocrypha occupies a fascinating place in biblical and literary history. These writings were included in many early Bibles and influenced Christian theology, Renaissance art, and English literature, while later being omitted from many Protestant editions.

Edition details: Oxford University Press, London: Humphrey Milford. Dark blue cloth boards with gilt spine lettering, embossed crest to front board, and ribbon marker.

Date identification: The Roman numeral CCXCIV translates to 294, which is the Oxford World’s Classics series number, not the publication year. The internal printing statement records this Revised Version Apocrypha as first printed in the series in 1926, with reprints in 1926, 1929, 1931, 1933 and 1935. This copy is therefore the 1935 reprint.

Condition: Good vintage condition. Solid binding with light shelf wear, edge rubbing to boards and spine, lightly toned pages, minor foxing/spotting to preliminaries, and previous owner inscription to front endpaper.
