The Age of Reason by Jean-Paul Sartre is the first novel in The Roads to Freedom trilogy, translated from the French by Eric Sutton.
Originally published in France in 1945 as L’Âge de raison, this English translation was first published by Hamish Hamilton in 1947. The novel follows philosophy teacher Mathieu Delarue over several days in pre-war Paris as he confronts questions of freedom, responsibility, relationships and choice.
