Marsden's Lieutenants by John Rawson Elder

John Rawson Elder's documentary history of the first Church Missionary Society agents sent to New Zealand under Samuel Marsden. The book draws on the correspondence and diaries of Thomas Kendall, William Hall and John King, recording the establishment and early years of the mission at the Bay of Islands in 1814–15.

The 1934 first edition was issued in a limited edition of 1,000 copies and is an important source for early nineteenth-century New Zealand and missionary history.

Condition: Hardcover with heavily worn dust jacket. Jacket has extensive tearing, losses, chipping, creasing, tanning and surface wear, especially across the upper edge and front panel. Blue cloth boards are exposed at areas of jacket loss and show some wear. Interior pages are age-toned; binding remains intact.
